Bedtime

The words are effortlessly swimming
Focusing however is effortful
Enya is playing on the stereo
She is good to float to

All the concepts meld into one
PowerofAttorneyPremorbidFunctionLaxatives
Twelve hours of continuous memorising
Alice, Alice, who the hell is Alice?

Paddles stream into Caddles
Which put caps of passionfruit on
To form big fat Daddles and paper aeroplanes,
To fly over the cuckoo's nest

Paddles, Daddles and Caddles

Rehabilitation medicine speak for pADLs, dADLs and cADLs.

Which stand for Personal, Domestic and Community Activities of Daily Living, which are a part of a social history that is taken from all patients who go through the rehabilitation process. This can be after strokes, amputations, fractures etc.

The mnemonic for things to ask in Paddles and Daddles is DEATH SHAFT. Dressing, Eating, Ambulating, Toileting, Hygiene (all pADLs), and Shopping, Housework, (I can't remember what A stands for), Finances and Transport. But what has happened before is some time-strapped doctor has written DEATH SHAFT under some poor old lady's social history without defining the rest of the words!
